I have just received the SCRD water “conservation” regulations document and there are several aspects to this that have me astounded as, given our dire water situation, they are utterly irresponsible.
Washing and filling features should not be permitted at all once Stage 1 is implemented as these use a large amount of water for no good purpose.
The target use, when it’s hot and dry, is 200 litres per person, per day. It is also utterly irresponsible to suggest this amount of water use which will inevitably lead to the draconian Stage 4 restrictions that nobody wants to see. With a modicum of care and forethought i.e. the use of greywater for certain things, one person should easily be able to use far less water than 200 litres per day.
These regulations are a recipe for disaster given the low snowpack. Has the SCRD learned nothing from our experience of the last few years?
