We would like to give kudos to B.C. ferries for their excellent service on Aug. 19.

We had made a reservation on the 10:50 a.m. ferry as we had to be at a funeral on Bowen Island at 2:30 p.m. We would have gone as foot passengers, but had offered to ferry out-of-towners to and from the church.

Arriving at Langdale, we discovered there was a 20-minute delay as there had been a police incident at Horseshoe Bay earlier in the day. By the time we had boarded and left for Horseshoe Bay, the delay had grown to half an hour.

We realized that this timing would not allow us to make the turnaround in time to catch the 12:10 p.m. Bowen Island ferry. Fearful we would miss the service, as there is a two-hour gap in the Bowen schedule in the middle of the day, we went to speak to the chief steward, Crystal. She was extremely positive and helpful and, after confirming that under normal circumstances we would miss the ferry, she arranged for us to have priority treatment. When leaving the ferry, we were to have our emergency flashers on and would be directed until we reached the Bowen Island terminal.

Everything went beautifully. When it was time to disembark, there were ferry workers, about five in all, at every bend to direct us as to where to go. We reached the Bowen Island ferry just in time to board and were in plenty of time to help and participate in a very special family event.

Well done, and thanks to an organization that is all too easy to criticize, but is also our delightful link to the Lower Mainland.
