The following letter was sent to Gibsons Mayor Barry Janyk and copied to Coast Reporter.
Dear Mayor Janyk:
I am not a resident of Gibsons, but recently purchased a sailboat and moor it at Gibsons Marina. Each weekend I drive out from Maple Ridge to Gibsons. The people have been fantastic. Total strangers are friendly and helping me with recommendations on marina supplies, restaurants, stores, etc. This past weekend, I was packing up to head home and left a hockey bag sitting on a bench; my clothes, digital camera, video camera, laptop stuffed in with the clothes. I drove to the ferry, waited in line two hours and just as the ferry was pulling in, remembered my bag. I left the line-up and returned to Gibsons. Two hours later, my bag was still sitting on the bench, with everything in it. In Vancouver, turning my back on it would have put it at risks of being 'liberated' from my possession in the first 30 seconds.
Quiet, friendly, helpful town and in this day and age honest people too.
