The following letter was sent to the SCRD and copied to Coast Reporter.

Dear board of directors:

I am writing this letter in regards to the cutback of Handi-Dart service from 75 hours to 60 hours. You have no concept of how this effects the people who really need the service. Several years ago I had a stroke and am now confined to an electric wheelchair. I surely did not ask for this, but have had to learn to deal with it. I cannot drive and am unable to get out of my house without the use of the Handi-Dart service. I cannot call a taxi as there are no wheelchair accessible taxis on the Coast. I am a prisoner in my own home and cannot tell you how disgusted I am that you cut the only service that is critical to the special needs, elderly and disabled in this community.

For all of us who have worked most of our lives and contributed to this economy and community, you are now going to take away the small amount of independence we had. I understand there have been no other cuts to the transit system or the Sunshine Coast Regional District, but it seems you have no problem bullying the most vulnerable.
