Responding to a letter by Geoff and Carolyn White in the April 27 edition of Coast Reporter they suggest that the, "new sense of vibrancy and activity taking place in Sechelt," is somehow the doing of this new council? In a nutshell that assumption is hilarious.

Specifics were conspicuously absent from their letter.

Were they referring to the construction of both phases of the Watermark project or the building of the Wharf Plaza or the great new location for the Sechelt Farmers and Artisans market or the long-awaited widening of Highway 101 in Selma Park? All of that activity is because of the diligent hard work of previous councils. Or were they referring to the "studies" being initiated (yet again) about the dire need for a full service marina in Trail Bay or foreshore improvements? They suggest we are now "moving strongly forward with confidence and enthusiasm."

Are they happy about this years 3.5 per cent tax increase? When for the previous three years the total was just 4.2 per cent, or about 1.4 per cent per year.

I don't mind giving this newly-elected group credit, where it is due, but please keep things in perspective and give some credit to those who had been working tirelessly for years to actually make Sechelt a "better" place for us all.
