As another boat owner frustrated by the lack of a marine facility in the Gibsons Harbour, I'd like to add some points to John Roper's excellent letter (Coast Reporter, Sept. 17).
Fouled boat hulls greatly reduce both speed and maneuverability, especially on sailboats. This is comparable to an aircraft with icy wings or a car with faulty tires this can become a safety issue in high winds or strong currents.
What is needed immediately is not an elaborate shipyard, but only a temporary work space well above high tide and a couple of support cradles. Bottom debris can be hand-scraped onto a tarp, then gathered up and transported to an approved disposal site.
