Don't turn over BCUC decision

The following letter was sent to Premier Gordon Campbell and copied to Coast Reporter.

Dear Mr. Campbell:

I am writing to let you know that I approve of the B.C. Utilities Commission's (BCUC) recent decision that would put the brakes on indepen-dent power projects, as being not in the public's best interest, and recommend taking conservation measures, instead, to protect our water supply.

The devastation to our streams and rivers that IPPs would cause was really brought home to me by Tony Greenfield's Waterfalls of B.C. book. In his book Mr. Greenfield points out that not only would some of the waterfalls depicted there be threatened by IPPs, but so would "lesser" but still beautiful falls such as the ones I have visited with my hiking group here on the Sunshine Coast.

I appeal to your government not to overturn the BCUC's wise decision in this matter.
