Cottage Farm may be a burden

As parents of a schizophrenic adult male, and as residents of the Langdale area, we value the right to have a voice in the rezoning application of ALR lands for use as a large mental health facility.

We have not found our Langdale neighbours to be intolerant in any way towards the mentally ill, rather the opposite. Many would support permanent housing and treatment for local schizophrenics, dispersed throughout the larger community, in small group homes.

Conversely, Cottage Farm is a project that plans to transplant 35 or more at-risk males from off-Coast to temporary housing nearby, for an average of one year per group turnover. Some patients will leave sooner. Some will relocate to the Coast.

Unfortunately, our personal experiences actually confirm many of our neighbours' concerns. If this farmland is rezoned for institutional use, a disproportionate burden will be placed on Langdale's small community.
