In regards to Paul Martiquet's column, Should you be Gluten-free (Coast Reporter, Aug. 10) I think the author uses the same arguments that smokers use to dismiss any evidence of cancer from cigarettes. Any evidence presented in the book "Wheat belly" he rules as anecdotal and assumptive so why not keep on eating wheat.
The evidence tied to cancer from cigarettes is based on statistics so why is it so hard to believe that if one in 100 people are allergic to gluten Dr. Davis may have a point in his book. I developed celiacs in January 2012 and have lost 20 pounds from going gluten free. In his book Dr. Davis points out that brown bread will raise your blood sugar faster that brown sugar all the while producing fat around your abdomen which is an indicator for health problems in the future.
