As a youth who lives in West Sechelt, there is little to do on the Coast other than sit at home, play sports or cause trouble.
Lately, vandals have taken root in my neighbourhood, feeling the need to plaster their tag on the mailboxes, and just being silly. Or so I thought.
As I was driving home, past children playing on the roads, I noticed the "N" word written on a street sign on the most populated street in the area.
I am just as white as the next person who lives here, but I cannot tolerate the ignorance, and I just can't tolerate the hate language. Maybe it's because the kids are bored, maybe they are just ignorant, and maybe if they had something else to do, they wouldn't feel the need to contribute to the hate machine. I'm just worried that maybe someone won't feel safe here. Who knows what they'll tag next?
So my question is: Gibsons has a youth program that reaches out to kids and gives them something to do, and a place to hang out. Why don't we have one of those?
