Apology is in order, SCRD

When the Elphinstone Electors and Robert Corlett stand shoulder to shoulder on an issue, one needs to remember the friendly banter that has gone on between us.

I have read the Oct. 28, 2009 staff report on the mountain of e-waste stockpiled at the Sechelt landfill (Coast Reporter, Nov. 6). It is economical with fact. While it is laudable that the e-waste was separated out at the landfill the stockpiling is not. This is akin to picking the apples off of your tree before the bears can get them, then leaving the box of apples under the tree.

I have contacted the Electronic Stewardship Association of BC and Encorp Pacific. They dispute the content of the staff report.

"Encorp has on multiple occasions asked the landfill site to stop collecting the program acceptable materials. To date there have been one to two pick-up requests at the landfill. Encorp even sent packaging supplies to the landfill free of charge after which the pick up requests stopped and Encorp understood that there was no longer a requirement forpick-ups at the landfill." I received this information Nov. 6.

Shame on director Janyk as chairfor allowing committee members (Sunshine Coast Regional District directors)tocriticize members of the public forexposing the SCRD's poor practices.

The SCRD needs to apologize for thepoor behavior towards Vel Anderson and the Elphinstone Electors.

In democracy citizens have a right to question the conduct of their government.
