Canadians second after junior pairs short program at Grand Prix Final

GRENOBLE — Canadian skaters Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher were second after Thursday's junior pairs short program at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Desrochers, from Mississauga, Ont., and Thrasher, from Windsor, Ont., scored 55.

GRENOBLE — Canadian skaters Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher were second after Thursday's junior pairs short program at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.

Desrochers, from Mississauga, Ont., and Thrasher, from Windsor, Ont., scored 55.28 points for their routine set to the soundtrack from the film "Amelie."

Chinese tandem Zhang Jiaxuan and Huang Yihang were first with 62.94 points.

Montreal pair Julia Quattrocchi and Simon Desmarais were last in the six-team field with 47.70 points.

The free skate is scheduled for Friday.

Also Friday, a pair of Canadian ice dance teams will compete in the rhythm dance. Toronto's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Unionville, Ont., look for another trip to the podium after winning the Grand Prix Final title in 2022 and finishing third in 2023. Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Que., and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Que., look for their first Grand Prix Final medal after finishing sixth last year.
