TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Rogers results

Rogers Communications Inc. is set to report its first-quarter financial results on Wednesday morning followed by the company's annual meeting of shareholders. Rogers recently announced a new 12-year agreement with the National Hockey League valued at $11 billion for the national media rights to NHL games on all platforms in Canada.

First Quantum results

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. will report its first-quarter results on Wednesday after the close of trading followed by a conference call with analysts and investors on Thursday morning. The company said earlier this month that it has agreed to discontinue or suspend a pair of arbitration proceedings related to its Cobre Panama mine which suspended production in 2023 following widespread protests and a court ruling that found an agreement with the government covering the mine was unconstitutional. The decision regarding the arbitration came after talks with the Government of Panama's legal counsel.

TFI results

TFI International Inc. will report its results after the close of markets Wednesday followed by a conference call with analysts and investors on Thursday morning. The country's largest trucking firm said earlier this year that it expected the first half of 2025 to be "more difficult" than the first six months of 2024.

Teck results

Teck Resources Ltd. is scheduled to report its first-quarter results before markets open Thursday and hold a conference call with analysts and investors. Teck said earlier this year that it expected to find other trade routes for some of the metals it refines in B.C. if the U.S. went ahead with tariffs. Output from Teck's refinery in Trail, B.C., includes zinc and lead, a variety of precious and specialty metals, chemicals and fertilizer products.

Retail trade

Statistics Canada will release its retail trade figures for February on Friday. Retail sales in Canada fell 0.6 per cent to $69.4 billion in January and the agency's advance estimate for February pointed to a drop of 0.4 per cent.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 20, 2025.
