The Storm FC U13 boys’ soccer team continued to prove this past Saturday, on home turf at Kinnikinnick, that perseverance and skill are part of their repertoire every single week. Coming off last weekend’s rather decisive 6-0 win in the city, and three other away games in a row, the boys looked rested and ready to show the home town crowd a special, wicked style of soccer that is difficult to describe even with a thesaurus at your side.
On this great, briefly rainless Saturday, our Storm welcomed the other Storm team from North Van, Storm versus Storm, a rematch of sorts from another game played a few weeks ago. The last time these two met, our Storm rushed to the game rather frantically from a late ferry and it took at least the first half to get on top of their game; they still managed a 5-4 win.
This time around our crew of talented players and coaches rolled onto the field on time, focused, eager and looking to repeat the result, maybe even improve on the score. And there was no doubt when the whistle blew that our Storm team have been fine tuning a lot since these two teams last met, making slight changes and strategic improvements and somehow imbuing even more of the tough, never-give-up attitude deep in their soccer DNA.
After a fantastic first half of quick thinking, clever passes that simply left North Van wondering which way to scramble, our Storm controlled the game like any lucky coach would want. In the second half, with our Storm up 2-0, there was a brief lapse, almost 15 minutes, in determination to get the ball out of enemy territory. It seemed to stay forever in the North Van end, although some speculated it was a test of the coaches’ patience planned by the boys before the game, because it sure got the blood pumping and the sidelines a lot louder.
Once that little exercise in tension was over, the game resumed its wonderful stride, continued to be dominated by the crazy bunch, our Storm FC U13 boys, and they even made it 3-0 just to seal the day for anyone lucky enough to have come to see them work, Coast style. This amazing group plays again this coming weekend, Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at Kinnikinnick. Do yourself a favour and watch them; it is truly unbelievable!
