Sea Cavalcade Surf and Turf Mile

Sea Cavalcade

Trevor Olsen and Sarah Crawford finished first in the men’s and women’s categories – respectively – of the 2016 Keats to Armours Mile Swim.

Jordan Wilson and Bridget Graham took home first prizes in the men’s and women’s categories of the 14th annual Sea Cavalcade one-mile run.

The Keats to Armours Mile is a long-standing tradition of the Sea Cavalcade festival in Gibsons, which ran from July 23 to 24
this year.

Conchita Harding, chair of the Sunshine Coast Sea Cavalcade Society, said that the Keats Swim has been running for at least 25 years, making it one of the longest standing traditions for Sea Cav, after the parade and fireworks.

Swimmers were accompanied by escort boats as they made their way from Keats Island to Armours Beach in Lower Gibsons.

A big turnout of 92 people participated in the Sea Cav Mile run, which has been steadily increasing in numbers every year – beginning with just eight people in the first race.

The course started near Park Road and finished near North Road. The race has started at Hough Road in previous years, but due to increased traffic congestion, the RCMP said they could not close the intersection at Pratt and Payne roads this year.

Anyone who competed in both the Keats to Armours Mile Swim and the Sea Cav Mile run were automatically entered in the Surf and Turf Mile Challenge. Only two people did both the run and the swim this year. Congrats to Trevor Olson and Felix Graham.
