The U16 boy's rep Strikers soccer team played host to a successful soccer camp last Friday.
The camp had 25 children aged nine to 12 in the morning session on a beautiful day at Piccadilly Park. The afternoon session had 27 children aged five to eight take part.
This camp, led by the Strikers, provided players with the opportunity to improve their skills and educate and train players on the various aspects of the game, such as first touch, quality passing, control, movement, speed and agility.
The focus of soccer is to have the team work together. Everyone on the team has a specific strength, which contributes to the team. It takes the effort of the entire team to play and win a game. This program will provide participants with the opportunity to advance their personal and teamwork skills. The U16 Strikers are building quite a name for themselves on the Coast and also in the Lower Mainland.
Jeremy Izad, who has been featured on several occasions in Coast Reporter sports, plays for the youth Vancouver Whitecaps team. Scouts are also keeping their eyes on another player on the squad.
The Strikers have three other players who are also currently training with the Whitecaps at the Youth Academy Training Centre. Other soccer players in the community are encouraged to talk with the players and find out what it takes to play at the Whitecaps level.
The group of young men were happy to share their secrets with young players at this action-packed soccer camp last week and will continue to set an example for other soccer teams and players on the Coast to strive for.
