Last weekend, the Sunshine Coast Adult Hockey League 2021/2022 men’s hockey league season came to an end with final games being played at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt on April 2. Two games were on the schedule, with the Bruins facing the Oilers in the bronze medal match and the Sun Coast Kings facing the Custom Hawks for the third season in a row. In the bronze match, the Bruins came out on top of the Oilers with a 5-1 win to claim third place.

In the men’s final, Avery Tweedy of the Sun Coast Kings scored the opening goal to put the Kings up 1-0 in the first period. In the second period, Marc Chabot was able to tie the game with an impressive breakaway goal. The Hawks were able to overcome penalty trouble late in the second, when Mac Roy scored to put the Hawks up 2-1 going into the third period. With only two minutes left in the game, Jake Wozney of the Kings went bar down, sending the finals to an additional overtime period where the teams played 3 on 3. Early into the overtime period, Mac Roy scored his second goal of the game, which gave the Hawks a 3-2 win and yet another playoff trophy!

Congratulations go out to the Custom Hawks on winning the SCAHL cup for the fourth straight season and the runners up Sun Coast Kings for a strong season finishing in first place in regular season play.

In the 45 and over league, the Rams took first place in their playoff game against Smitty’s Shuckers with a score of 4-2 on March 30. The Relics defeated the Breakers 5-2 to clinch third spot in the league on April 3.

Congratulations to all men’s league teams on a great season! The SCAHL is looking forward to an even better 2022-2023 with the hope of further growing the men’s league and progress in filling some key officiating roles.
