Father’s Day weekend meant tournament softball at Kinnikinnick Park. Sunshine Coast Youth Softball held their year-end tournament June 16 to 19. Although the weather was poor at times, the games were great.
In the Bantam Division, BA Blacktop, who were undefeated in regular season play, needed to play four games to get to the final. Source for Sports thumped them in the first game and Gibsons Building Supplies (GBS) played hard to lose by one run. The Saturday afternoon game was played in pouring rain with strong pitching from Jordan Robinson for Source and Jordy Fawcett for BA. Source won the game by one run.
Sunday morning BA and GBS played the semi-final. Angelo pitched well for BA with strong hitting from the BA lineup. BA made it to the final against Source.
Early innings in the final were tight with excellent defence from both teams. Source moved ahead 12-6 in the fourth inning with BA responding to tie the game. In the fifth inning BA scored 15 runs as Source pitching started to struggle. In the sixth Jayden Copping made a game-saving catch in left field to strand Source runners. In the seventh inning Source made a challenge but were too far back. BA won the game 28 to 18.
MVPs for the game were Jordy Fawcett for BA who pitched well and drove in eight runs including a grand slam. Megan Robinson was MVP for Source with excellent defensive and offensive play.
