While project funding has been in place since May 2022, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) board was advised that building of upgrades to the Woodcreek Park wastewater plant are estimated to begin at the start of 2025 and to be done in the spring.

Staff provided that update at the board’s meeting of Oct. 24, as the elected officials gave their OK to amend Integrated Sustainability Consultants' contract for project engineering by $88,159, up to $206,159. The change was to cover the firm providing construction management and post-construction engineering services work and includes a 15 per cent contingency “in case additional fees crop up” according to statement made by SCRD manager of capital project Bryan Shoji at the meeting.

The regional district received $769,000 in grant funding under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Rural and Northern Communities in 2022 to improve the plant’s treated effluent quality and reduce infiltration and inflow into the sewer collection system. The total project budget was estimated at $968,591. The term of the grant agreement is to end March 31, 2026.
