A 41-year-old Sechelt woman was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) and a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention after rear-ending a parked police cruiser on Sechelt Inlet Road shortly after 1 a.m. on July 2.

A 41-year-old Sechelt woman was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) and a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention after rear-ending a parked police cruiser on Sechelt Inlet Road shortly after 1 a.m. on July 2. "The police officer had pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway and was speaking to witnesses regarding an unrelated incident when the police cruiser was rear-ended," said Sunshine Coast RCMP Cpl. Steve Chubey. "The police officer was inside of the police cruiser when the collision occurred. Police determined through speaking to the driver of the suspect vehicle that she had been driving under the influence of alcohol. A breath sample was received from the driver which resulted in a "fail," meaning that she was over the legal limit. The driver was issued a 90-day IRP and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days."

Chubey said both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the collision. The driver of the suspect vehicle and the police officer sustained minor injuries.
