Marine infrastructure in Trail Bay undergoes upgrade as District of Sechelt replaces sewer outfall pipe

Some out-of-date marine infrastructure is receiving an upgrade in Trail Bay.

On Jan. 25, the District Of Sechelt contractors began work replacing the sewer outfall pipe, which extends 400m into the water.

Back in October, council approved a $300,000 contract for Fraser Burrard Diving Ltd. to replace the existing weighted pipe segment with a new pipe with integrated weights.

Design began in 2022, when it was decided to replace the weighted segment of pipe with a new pipe with integrated weights. This allowed Sechelt also to move the outfall pipe back into its original alignment after the existing outfall pipe had fallen out of place over the years.

The new pipe, which carries effluent that has been treated at Sechel’s Water Resource Centre, is floating and will be sunk down by divers over the next few days.
