Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 5 to 12:
A single-vehicle accident occurred at the corner of Northwood Road and Eastwood Road after a vehicle crashed into a tree. The single occupant and driver, who was uninjured, left the scene, but returned shortly afterward to speak with the RCMP officer. The driver told police that he had been speeding, failed to negotiate the corner and slid off the road into the tree. The driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding.
On July 5, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Harmony Lane and stole a wallet and a Canon digital camera. The wallet was later found up the street with everything still intact.
Sometime overnight on July 5, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of Harmony Lane and stole a green iPod and charger. Nothing was damaged.
Early on July 5, a thief broke into a locked vehicle parked in the 5800 block of Trail Avenue by using a pry bar to open a door. The thief damaged the vehicle and rifled through the glove box and console, but nothing was stolen.
A possible impaired driver was reported by an off-duty police officer after the officer witnessed a southbound vehicle on Highway 101 near Secret Cove speeding and passing vehicles on a double solid line. An on-duty officer located the vehicle near Wakefield Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of intoxication and was given, and failed, a roadside alcohol-screening test. The Class 7 driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded. The driver was also given violation tickets for crossing a double solid line and driving contrary to restrictions.
Sometime overnight July 6, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of North Fletcher Road and stole a wallet left in the console.
A carved wooden mask was reported stolen from an address in the 5500 block of Highway 101. The mask is a male face with carved hair coming down the sides, and is approximately 18" high, stained a dark brown with red paint details. The artist's name "Yelton" is carved into the back of the mask. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.
On July 6, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 400 block of Marine Drive after the female suspect left without making a purchase and staff discovered an opened case of beer with 15 cans missing. The staffer ran after the suspect and confronted her in the parking lot, but the suspect fled before the beer could be recovered. A good description of the suspect was provided and police are reviewing surveillance footage to confirm her identification.
On July 9, a hit and run accident occurred in the Hotel Lake area after a white truck fatally struck on off-leash puppy and sped off onto Sinclair Road without stopping. The late model Ford truck, which appeared to be lifted, was driven by a mid-late 30's white male, clean shaven with short dark hair, wearing a shirt with a SCUBA dive flag on the front.
On July 11, a thief broke into a vehicle parked in the 5100 block of Radcliffe Road and stole a Panasonic DMC-TZ1 digital camera and a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses. It is believed the thief gained entry through a partially opened window.
Several reports of mischief were received by RCMP after vandals slashed tires of a vehicle in the 600 block of School Road, ripped windshield wipers off a car parked in the 500 block of Shaw Road and threw rocks through a skylight leaned up against a house in the 600 block of Marine Drive.
