Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 26 to Aug. 2:
Between July 15 and 22, a thief stole a brand new 9.9 HP Mercury four-stroke outboard motor and attached battery from a boat that had been stored in the 5900 block of Tillicum Bay Road.
On July 23, a thief stole a blue "Mountain Trail" backpack from Hackett Park while the owner was sleeping. The backpack contained personal items, clothing, identification and bank cards (which have been cancelled).
On July 26, a thief stole a 2008 Honda 9.9 long shaft outboard motor from a boat parked in the 5600 block of Cascade Crescent. The thief also tried to steal the gas tank, but was unsuccessful.
Sometime between July 26 and 27, a thief stole a large amount of fishing equipment from a boat parked in the 6400 block of Norwest Bay Road. Rods, reels and tackle gear were among the stolen items.
Sometime between July 27 and 28, a thief broke into a building in the 5500 block of Highway 101 by prying open a door to gain entry and stole a Dell laptop and a "Survey Master" software package. Nothing else was damaged or stolen.
A possible impaired driver was reported in the 5500 block of Highway 101 by witnesses concerned about a northbound vehicle driving erratically. The witness provided a licence plate and vehicle description and an officer stopped the vehicle near Norwest Bay Road. The driver displayed obvious signs of impairment and failed two roadside alcohol-screening tests. The driver's licence was seized, his vehicle was impounded and charges for impaired operation of a motor vehicle are being recommended.
A possible impaired driver and passenger was reported in the 14000 block of Highway 101 after witnesses noticed a running vehicle parked roadside with two unresponsive males inside, and liquor bottles strewn throughout the interior. An officer was enroute when he spotted the suspect vehicle heading south on the highway near Middle Point. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was given, and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. A 90-day immediate roadside prohibition was issued and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Overnight on July 31, a thief gained entry into an unlocked building in the 5900 block of Sechelt Inlet Road and stole a Hewlett-Packard laptop, a Fuji digital camera, a Sony video camera, a credit car, keys and hearing aids.
Overnight on July 28, a thief stole a white with grey stripe three-metre long Caribe inflatable boat with a 2010 Yamaha 15 hp outboard motor. The boat was tied to a sailboat moored near Thormanby Island.
Overnight on July 31, a thief broke into a truck parked in the 700 block of Creekside Crescent by smashing a passenger side window and stole a STIHL 200 chainsaw and a STIHL 192 chainsaw. Both have 16" bars and are a speciality chainsaw for tree topping.
