Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 17 to 24: Overnight Aug. 16/17, a thief stole a purse from an unlocked vehicle in the 700 block of Creekside Crescent. Police remind people not to leave valuables in their vehicles at any time.

Overnight Aug. 16/17, a thief stole a purse from an unlocked vehicle in the 700 block of Creekside Crescent. Police remind people not to leave valuables in their vehicles at any time.

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near McCullough Road when a southbound vehicle suddenly swerved off the road and struck a utility pole before ending up in the ditch. Witnesses reported the vehicle was driving normally before leaving the road. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, admitted to being tired and falling asleep at the wheel, was issued a violation ticket for drive without consideration.

On Aug. 18, a possible mischief call came in from the 700 block of School Road in Gibsons after the caller heard smashing sounds. An officer made patrols and located a severely damaged vehicle driving along Gibsons Way. The "N" driver advised that he and his friends had been smashing the car and were planning to "drive it into the ground." The officer issued the driver a notice and order to have the vehicle inspected and a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions. The driver's parent was called to collect him.

On Aug. 18, a report of mischief in the 12900 block of Madeira Park Road after a five-foot tall carving went missing. Evidence showed that the statue was thrown over a railing into the ocean. A witness later advised that late on Aug. 17 that he saw a group of youth near the carving, heard a loud splash, and then saw the youth scatter back a boat. Unfortunately, no descriptors were obtained.

On Aug. 18, a small collection of coins was found near Eaglecrest Drive and O'Shea Road. The owner may claim by providing RCMP with a very detailed description, and reference file 10-6604.

A possible impaired driver was reported driving erratically northbound on Highway 101 near Field Road. The caller provided a licence plate number, vehicle and driver description. Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Monkey Tree Lane. The driver showed signs of impairment and was detained for investigation.

A youth was caught shoplifting at a business in the 400 block of Marine Drive and was detained until police could arrive. The youth was apologetic and due to lack of police history, referred, with the approval of the business owner, to the Restorative Justice program.

A possible impaired driver was reported heading northbound on Highway 101 near Selma Park Road. An officer located and stopped the vehicle on Wharf Road. The driver did not have a valid driver's licence and was also a vehicle impound candidate, so the vehicle was impounded and the driver issued a violation ticket for not having a valid licence.

Overnight Aug. 19/20, several vehicles at 1200 block of Marion Place were broken into by a thief who appeared to be looking for cash. In all cases, the vehicles were left unlocked, and the vehicles ransacked. However, there was no damage and very little was stolen.

Between Aug. 20 and 22, several reports were made about rocks being thrown at windows in the 6400 block of Lynnwood Crescent and 6300 block of Tower Road. Two windows were broken during these incidents. Police were advised groups of youth were seen in the area, but patrols were negative.

On Aug. 23, a thief stole a bicycle from a residence in the 1400 block of Highway 101. The bike, which had not been secured, is a Davinci Milano 21-speed hybrid bike with yellow and navy blue pattern.
