Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 1 to 8:
A thief broke into a storage locker at a building in the 5800 block of Cowrie Street and stole a carpet cleaner. The thief cut the lock and took it away as well. Nothing else was stolen.
A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 1700 block of North Road after a northbound vehicle collided into a concrete barrier then crashed into a ditch on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle was severely damaged, but the driver, who sustained minor injuries, was able to exit the vehicle and was found by a passerby who provided assistance. The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for driving without due care and consideration.
An unlicensed, prohibited driver was caught driving on Lillies Lake Road after a police officer ran the license plate and noted the conditions on the vehicle. The driver was pulled over and admitted to being unlicensed and prohibited, but that she had to drive because of an emergency which was to purchase non-alcoholic beverages. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without a license, given another notice of prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded.
A witness reported a northbound vehicle driving erratically and almost hitting a pedestrian on Highway 101 near Flume Road. The witness provided a license plate, vehicle and driver description and direction of travel. A police officer located and followed the suspect vehicle before pulling it over. The driver exited the vehicle and admitted she had been texting while driving. The driver smelled of alcohol and also admitted to having consumed alcohol a short time earlier. The driver agreed to and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. She was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.
Sometime overnight on Feb. 6 and 7 a thief broke into a business in the 1300 block of Port Mellon Highway by prying open a door and stole a red tool box containing rolls of coins and bills. Police are reviewing security surveillance footage.
