Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 19 to 26: An iPod Touch, that was found near a business in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way, was turned into RCMP.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 19 to 26:

An iPod Touch, that was found near a business in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way, was turned into RCMP. The owner may claim by contacting police with a detailed description of colour and special markings. Please reference file 11-2375.

Sometime between April 13 and 20, a thief stole a boat trailer that was parked in the 5700 block of Wharf Road. The 1993 grey Escort boat trailer had a bent passenger side fender.

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Trail Avenue at Dolphin Street after a westbound vehicle on Dolphin failed to yield after stopping and drove through the intersection, colliding with a vehicle travelling on Trail. Both drivers suffered minor injuries and one passenger had to be taken to hospital for treatment of broken ribs. Both vehicles also had to towed due to severe damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

An elderly resident of Sechelt called for assistance after she was unable to free her new cat that was trapped under a heavy cabinet. The resident had tried various methods to try to retrieve the cat, including using treats and a broom, and even emptied out the cabinet, but was unable to move it on her own. An officer attended and was able to safely rescue the cat.

Early on April 22 while attending to a separate incident in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, police witnessed several youths walking down the street. One of the male youths, who appeared intoxicated, took a couple of business signs and moved them onto Shaw Road. This male then walked up to a large municipal sign, grabbed it and pulled it several times until it fell to the ground. The male was arrested for mischief and lodged in cells until sober. The file is still under investigation.

On April 23, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 900 block of Venture Way after a staff member, who'd already dealt with the male a few days prior for another theft, told the male he was banned from the business. The male then grabbed an item off a shelf and fled on foot. The file is still under investigation.

On April 23, police attended an alarm call at a building in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. While conducting a perimeter check, three males exited out of a set of doors, which initiated a foot chase. An officer was able to apprehend one of the males, who was then arrested for break and enter and transported to cells. It does not appear the males stole any items or damaged any property in the building, however, the file is still under investigation.

On April 23, a shoplifter was witnessed stealing a large amount of meat from a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101. Staff were unable to stop the male before he left with the stolen goods. The male attended the business a second time, again loading up a bag with meat, but this time, staff were able to question him. The male dropped the bag and fled empty-handed. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.

A possible impaired driver was reported after a witness reported a male who appeared heavily intoxicated driving away from a business in the 1000 block of Seamount Way. Police located the vehicle a short distance away, and pulled it over. The driver showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. He was given a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.

Sometime between April 21 and 24, a thief broke into a residence in the 500 block of Marine Crescent by kicking open a basement door and smashing a window. The thief or thieves rifled through the house and stole a TV and a brass marine clock. The TV was later found tossed in a nearby bush. The file is still under investigation.
