Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 11 to 18:

On Jan. 11, a personal electronic device was turned in by someone who had found it in Davis Bay. The owner may claim it by providing a detailed description of the item by calling 604-885-2266, reference file 11-219.

Sometime on Jan. 10, a vandal smashed a glass door of a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, however, only broke through the first pane so no entry was gained.

A vehicle bumped into two pedestrians as they were crossing North Road at Gibsons Way. The driver advised the police officer that he hadn't seen the pedestrians until they were right in front of him and hit the brakes, but still made contact with them. The pedestrians, who had the right of way in the well-lit crosswalk, received very minor injuries, but were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt as a precaution. The driver was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care and attention.

A witness reported a possible intoxicated driver leaving a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Road. Police made patrols and located the suspect driver at another business nearby, who admitted to having consumed alcohol. The driver failed a roadside alcohol-screening test and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.

A single-vehicle accident occurred at the south end of Francis Peninsula Road after a northbound vehicle lost control on a turn and collided with a tree on the opposite side of the road. The injured driver was taken to hospital. The file is still under investigation.

Early on Jan. 14, a thief broke into a business in the 3000 block of Lower Road and stole a small amount of alcohol. There was no damage and nothing else was taken.

On Jan. 15, an unknown male suspect was caught breaking into a residence in the 400 block of Aldersprings Road after a resident heard noises from downstairs. The suspect, who had pried open a door, fled before police arrived. He is described as being around 30 to 35 years old, and was wearing a black coat, hat and had a scruffy beard. It does not appear the thief made off with any goods.

A motor-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Gibsons Way and Shaw Road after a westbound vehicle failed to stop in time for the pedestrian crosswalk and struck a northbound pedestrian. The vehicle was not moving quickly and the impact did not knock down or injure the pedestrian. The driver was issued a violation ticket for entering an intersection on a red light.

A kayak was found on an island in the Secret Cove area back in December. The item may be claimed by owner with a detailed description, by calling the Sechelt detachment, reference file 11-341.
