Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of March 29 to April 5:
A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 12900 block of Highway 101 after a southbound vehicle lost control while attempting to pass in a passing lane.
The vehicle crossed a double-solid line and struck the northbound ditch and bounced several times before landing on its roof. Speed and bald rear tires were factors in the incident. The uninjured driver was issued a violation ticket for crossing a double solid line.
Late on March 29, a resident in the 300 block of Aldersprings Road witnessed an unknown male searching through a vehicle parked in the driveway. The suspect, described as a slim built male approximately 5'9," wearing a dark hooded sweater, fled in a silver Grand Am type vehicle driven by another male. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle, as the owner had left nothing of value inside.
Sometime overnight between March 29 and 30, a thief gained entry into two vehicles parked on Glassford Road and stole a small amount of change. The vehicles were not locked.
A two-vehicle accident occurred in the 5500 block of Highway 101 after a vehicle stopped for a yellow light. A motorcycle behind the vehicle failed to stop and tried to avoid a collision by swerving to the left, and clipped the vehicle's rear bumper. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were uninjured, but the motorcyclist was taken to hospital for minor injuries, and the motorcycle had to be towed.
On March 30, a theft was reported at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street after a number of youth were witnessed behaving suspiciously in the store and torn merchandise tags were discovered after they left. Police reviewed surveillance footage and were able to identify two female suspects. The file is still under investigation.
Sometime overnight March 30, a thief stole some change from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4700 block of Whitaker Road.
Sometime overnight between March 30 and 31, thieves broke into a property in the 5800 block of Sechelt Inlet Road and stole two, five-foot aluminum step stools and several boxes of drywall screws.
Thieves made off with an 11-foot aluminum "Flyfisher" boat and a four-horsepower outboard Johnson motor, model S4RED, from a locked compound in the 12800 block of Madeira Park Road. The thieves removed a lock from the gate to gain entry. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 11-1928.
On April 2, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way after a staff member witnessed the male hide an item up his jacket sleeve. The male left the premises without paying. Surveillance footage caught the theft and police were able to make a positive identification. The suspect was located at a residence nearby, with the stolen item. The file is still under investigation.
Sometime between April 1 and 2, thieves stole a variety of tools off the porch of a residence in the 130 block of Mahan Road. A Stihl KM-110 hedge trimmer with hedge trimmer and limb cutter attachments, a Makita biscuit joiner and a pole pruner were stolen.
