Weekly police report

RCMP Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 5: Sometime between Sept. 28 and 29, a thief stole a grey Toyota Rav4 parked in the 6500 block of Reeves Road. The keys had been left in the unlocked vehicle.

Sometime between Sept. 28 and 29, a thief stole a grey Toyota Rav4 parked in the 6500 block of Reeves Road. The keys had been left in the unlocked vehicle.

A second unlocked parked in front of the stolen vehicle was also rummaged through as well. It is believed the stolen vehicle may have been driven up a logging road in the Mason Road mine area. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 10-7728, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

On Sept. 29, a man's ring was found in the 5700 block of Medusa Street. The owner may claim it from the RCMP by providing a detailed description, reference file 10-7734.

Sometime between Sept. 25 and 29, a thief broke into a shed in the 600 block of Harmony Lane by prying open the door, breaking it in half and stealing a light coloured Featherlight series Weedeater, model XT200/X25.

Sometime between Sept. 29 and 30, a thief broke into a storage container near Reed and Stewart roads stealing a large amount of tools, including compressors, chainsaws, nail guns and skill saws. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 10-7757 or Crimestoppers.

A possible impaired driver was reported in the 5600 block of Wharf Road after staff at a business noticed a man smelling of alcohol, head towards a vehicle. Police arrived as the suspect driver turned on his vehicle. The driver, who admitted to consuming a beer at lunch, was given a roadside alcohol-screening test and produced a "fail" result. The driver, who was not grossly intoxicated and does not have an impaired driving history, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Early on Oct. 2, a resident in the 5400 block of Boxwood Road awoke to sounds of his vehicle being driven away. The unlocked vehicle, which had had the keys left inside, was immediately reported stolen and officers located it heading southbound on Highway 101 near McCullough Road. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle turned up Pell Road where is crashed into some blackberry bushes. Two male suspects fled from the vehicle and ran into the bushes. Extensive patrols for the suspects were unsuccessful. The suspect driver was seen wearing a red ball cap. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 10-7817.

Sometime between Oct. 1 and 2, a suspect broke into an unlocked garage in the 1400 block of Sunset Place and went through an unlocked vehicle. A similar incident was reported in the 1400 block of Vernon Place and in the 400 block of Harry Road, another unlocked vehicle was ransacked. In all three cases, nothing was actually stolen.

On Oct. 2, a thief stole a vehicle parked on Radcliffe Road that was left unlocked with the keys inside. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in the ditch near Nestman and Palm roads.

A police officer stopped a vehicle after it attempted to avoid a check stop, and found the driver smelling of alcohol. The driver was issued a roadside alcohol-screening test, and failed. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound. The driver was also issued a violation ticket after failing to produce a valid driver's licence.

Police attended to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 101 after a motorcyclist lost control and skidded sideways on some gravel. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for injuries and a family member picked up the damaged motorcycle.
