Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 22 to 29:
On March 22, some scuba gear was lost or stolen from the Tuwanek area. The missing items include a bright red Halcyon lift bag, a pair of Scubapro black fins and a nylon diving line.
An on-going problem with mischief at an address on Reef Road was reported after suspects again removed toys from an enclosed yard and put them on the road or surrounding properties.
A single-vehicle accident occurred on the Port Mellon Highway near McNair Forest Service Road that closed the highway for a short period of time. A logging truck towing a trailer lost control on a corner and flipped on its side, causing significant damage to the truck as well as to a bridge guardrail. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured. The truck's entire load of logs fell into Dakota Creek. A number of agencies were called to assist on scene, including the Ministry of Environment due to the small amount of gasoline that spilled into Dakota Creek. The logs were removed and the truck and trailer were towed for inspection. The driver was issued violation tickets for driving without due care, no insurance on the trailer, and failing to provide a valid driver's licence, as well as two inspection notices.
A police officer witnessed a vehicle speeding at over twice the posted speed limit on Lower Road. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. While the vehicle was being readied for towing, a small amount of marihuana and liquor was found inside the vehicle. The items were seized.
A single-vehicle accident occurred in the 400 block of South Fletcher Road after a driver crashed into a building. The driver claimed he had hit the brake when the vehicle sped forward on its own. Fortunately, no pedestrians were hurt and the driver was uninjured. However, the building exterior and interior sustained significant damage. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and his driver's licence was seized pending a medical examination to determine his fitness to drive.
On March 24, a black "Sealife" underwater camera in its protective housing was lost or stolen from the area near the Wharf Rd pier in Sechelt.
Sometime between Feb. 26 and March 26, a thief broke into a residence on Keats Island and stole an air purifier. The thief entered through a kitchen window. The file is still under investigation.
On March 26, a theft in progress was reported after a male and female suspect were witnessed leaving a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101 with a cart full of stolen goods. Staff tried to detain the couple, but the couple refused to cooperate, and fled on foot leaving the laden cart behind. The suspects were identified through surveillance footage and arrested for theft.
Early on March 28, thieves broke into a business in the 1000 block of Roberts Creek Road after breaking a window to gain access. The thieves stole a Bose mini-sound system, an iPod Classic edition and two large bottles of Bacardi Rum.
A possibly impaired driver was reported on Highway 101 near Lower Road. The witness provided a licence plate number, vehicle description and direction of travel. Police located and stopped the vehicle and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol and submitted to a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver failed the test and was issued a 90-day roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
A speeding driver was caught by an on-duty traffic officer after the officer witnessed a vehicle going west-bound on Reed Road at more than double the posted speed limit. The officer stopped the vehicle and issued the driver a violation ticket for excessive speed, a driving prohibition and impounded his vehicle.
