Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Dec. 28 to Jan. 4:

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Hill Road after a southbound driver lost control on a corner, spun around and ended up in the ditch on the opposite side of the highway. The driver, who was alone, was given a violation ticket for driving contrary to his driver licence restrictions and going too fast for conditions. The vehicle was towed due to damage and the driver was transported to hospital for minor injuries.

A single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 101 near Egmont Road after a driver swerved to avoid two deer while navigating a sharp turn. The vehicle rolled over into the ditch, but the driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own and was unharmed. The van was towed due to damage. No violation ticket was issued.

On Dec. 29, a thief broke into a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Road by breaking a glass door to gain entry. The thief stole a Dell desktop computer, keyboard, desk fan, power bar and an almond coloured metal cash box with a small amount of cash and documents. The computer, keyboard, monitor and fan were later recovered nearby. The file is still under investigation.

On Dec. 29, a thief broke into a residence in the 5200 block of Highway 101 by smashing several windows until entry was gained. The thief stole a Toshiba laptop computer and ransacked through some drawers, but nothing else appears to have been taken.

Thieves broke into a water-access only building located in Sechelt Inlet and stole two pellet guns and some alcohol. Vandals damaged a second building in the area by smashing out windows and shooting the exterior walls with a rifle. A witness reported seeing two young males carrying rifles in a canoe in the area. The file is still under investigation.

RCMP attended a single-vehicle accident on Redrooffs Road near Fullerton Road after a passerby reported a vehicle upside down in the ditch. The driver was unable to exit the vehicle due to its position in the ditch and the fire department assisted in removing the driver. The police officer noticed the smell of liquor on the driver and administered a roadside alcohol-screening test, which the driver failed. The driver was then transported to hospital to be checked over, where he was served his driving prohibition documents. The vehicle was towed.

Early on Jan. 2, thieves broke a window to gain access into a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101 and stole a large variety of electronic equipment and appliances. Over a dozen 40" and 46" inch Sony, Samsung and LG LCD television sets, one 46" Samsung LED television, Sony, Samsung, LG DVD and Blu-Ray players, and two Dyson ball vacuums were stolen. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477, reference Sunshine Coast file 2011-22.

A police officer witnessed an erratic driver in the 700 block of Gibsons Way and pulled him over. The driver was administered a roadside alcohol-screening test which he failed. The driver was issued a driving prohibition, his driver's licence was seized and his vehicle was towed.
