Waste Management (WM) has partnered with Salish Soils to continue curbside collection service in the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) effective immediately, the district announced Dec. 13.
For all SCRD residences receiving garbage and green bin collections, Salish Soils will now be performing this service.
Starting in February 2022, there will be a schedule change for some residences. Those details are still being worked out, the SCRD manager of solid waste services Robyn Cooper said in an email to Coast Reporter. Affected residences will receive delivered notices in January.
“The partnership between WM and Salish Soils is intended to support high level service delivery of the curbside collection services moving forward,” Cooper said. “As well, SCRD residents with questions can contact Salish Soils directly as opposed to contacting the WM call centre. More information about these changes will be delivered to affected residences in January and other outreach to advertise the changes will be conducted.”
As WM has subcontracted the collection to Salish Soils, there is no service fee change associated with WM and Salish Soil’s partnership, and it won’t affect the contract the SCRD holds with WM.
“Thank you to our residents for their patience and understanding during the past six months of service disruptions that were due to ongoing labour shortages,” the SCRD’s update on Facebook said.
