Washboard Hank and Lance Loree will perform Feb. 7 at the Gumboot Garden Café in Roberts Creek. Washboard Hank is a legendary Canadian artist long under-appreciated for his contributions to both the alternative country scene and the contemporary music scene in Canada. Starting out as a punk country player (long before there was punk) in the iconic Reverend Ken & The Lost Followers band, he emerged as a tour de force in his own right. His show mixes cutting edge wit with sardonic attitude in songs like We Love You Queen Elizabeth Cause You Wear Funny Hats and The Donut Shops of Ontario. He can also stop you cold with the beautiful Train Yard - a song about killing off the railroads. Hank currently tours with a killer band with Lance Loree of the short-lived, self-destructive Junior Gone Wild and Mike McCafferty. Washboard Hank & The Country Squires pound the Trans-Canada highway night after night with exceptional stamina and attitude that leaves their audiences howling for more. Hank holds several beer-selling records across the north, which some say will never be broken. It is evident that Washboard Hank's music was influenced early on by Stompin' Tom Conners, and Hank follows in that great Canadian tradition.
