Habitat is currently seeking volunteers to make up its new board to be sworn in at their annual general meeting on April 12.

The mission of Habitat is, "To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty."

The foundation upon which Habitat homes are built is the volunteer, which includes board members. Basic duties of board members include attending monthly meetings and chairing a committee. There are currently openings for chairs of four important committees: family selection, family mentoring, volunteer/membership and treasurer, although all 14 positions are assigned from those elected following the AGM. Meetings are held Wednesday evenings at the ReStore boardroom in Sechelt and typically last two hours. Anyone interested in becoming a board member can check out the Habita newsletter at http://habitatsc.ca/newsletters/Habitat-Newsletter-2011-01-16.pdf, or contact Ed or Gwen Hawkins at 604-883-2778 or email [email protected].
