Do you enjoy listening and being with people one on one?

Would you be able to give at least a couple of hours of your time each week? If your response was yes, there could be a rewarding volunteer opportunity for you with the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society. Hospice training will begin in October and last for 10 weeks. The sessions will be held on a Friday morning and the final session will be all day. There will be individual interviews before and after the training. The training offered by Hospice is thought provoking, allows you to grow as a person and can be used in many other areas of your life. The training course fee is $50, which includes a binder with a wealth of printed information that you can keep and refer to in the future. For those persons unable to afford this cost, arrangements can be made to assist you.

After your training, Hospice asks that you donate your time to visit with a person who has a life threatening illness or to support a person who is grieving. These visits usually take place in the client's home, in the hospital, at one of the local care homes or in one of the palliative care rooms in Shorncliffe Complex Care Home. The volunteer is offered ongoing support. There are monthly educational meetings, which the volunteer is expected to attend.

Hospice has been providing services on the Sunshine Coast since 1987, and volunteers have consistently said they find working with people one-on-one to be a rewarding experience.

Giving back to the community is rewarding and Hospice can offer a unique and challenging opportunity.
