Two Sunshine Coast residents were arrested last week during a traffic stop and subsequent drug search.
On June 11, members of the Sunshine Coast RCMP stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.
During the course of the stop, a stolen property investigation was entered into, and a 25-year-old male from Roberts Creek and a 16-year-old female from Gibsons were searched.
"Police located a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe on the female," said Const. Jason Bouwman. "During a search of the male and the vehicle, police located five half-gram pieces of crack cocaine, 12 morphine pills, a score sheet, $95 and a cell phone."
Bouwman said the female suspect was released to a parent, while the male suspect was held in custody to appear before a justice of the peace. The suspect will face charges of possession of crack cocaine and morphine for the purpose of trafficking.
"Morphine is an opiate prescription drug that is often used as a substitute for heroin, with effects similar to those of heroin," Bouwman said. "Most morphine sold on the street is diverted from legal prescriptions or stolen from residences, pharmacies or hospitals. Morphine is one of the more commonly abused prescription drugs on the Sunshine Coast."
