Tug boats coming to Gibsons

If you were here during the summer of 1999, you may remember a special gathering of tugboats that graced the Gibsons Harbour over the Canada Day long weekend.

If you were here during the summer of 1999, you may remember a special gathering of tugboats that graced the Gibsons Harbour over the Canada Day long weekend.

The International Retired Tugboat Rendezvous attracted over 20 large tugs that rafted together with flags flying, adding a tremendous splash of colour to Gibsons Landing and the wharf area. The public was permitted the rare opportunity to go aboard many of these fine vessels to see craftsmanship of yesteryear.

During July 1 to 4 this year, the tugboats are coming back to the Landing.

Over the weekend, there will be lots to see and do for kids of all ages. It starts with a "welcoming the tugboats" event at 4 p.m. on Canada Day (Friday, July 1).

Music, activities and dockside events will continue Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3, from Armours Beach to Winegarden Park.

The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives are hosting this event in collaboration with the Town of Gibsons and the SCRD.

True boat lovers will be able to take in this event and the Wooden Boat Festival in Sechelt. The public is invited to attend both seaside events over the course of the long weekend.
