As of Tuesday, 330 teenagers had received a Youth Travel Pass –– an S-Pass –– to allow them free access to transit on the Coast.

The passes for youth 13 to 18 years old attending secondary school came to fruition this month after investment from the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) and following years of advocacy from local youth leaders.

Youth who don’t yet have a pass may still get one from the Sechelt Aquatic Centre, Gibsons and Area Community Centre or at the SCRD administration building on Field Road. They must have a valid School District No. 46 ID card or current government-issued ID to get a card. (They need a pass for the free transit, a student card isn’t sufficient.) This pass is valid to Oct. 31, 2025.

Youth may get the pass either as a physical card or through the UMO Mobility App (SCRD staff need to activate the pass, so they should have the app downloaded and ready to go).
