The month of May set new daily high temperatures in Sechelt and Gibsons — four days in a row.
Between Friday May 12 and Monday May 15, an unseasonable heat wave broke dozens of daily heat records across the province. Even though Lytton didn’t break a heat record, it was the hottest spot in Canada on May 13 at 34.1 degrees Celsius. That temperature rose to 35.9 the next day.
The Gibsons Gower Point weather station, where records go back more than 60 years, recorded May 12 at a high temperature of 24 degrees, which increased to a high of 25.5 the next day. May 14 was the highest temperature recorded at that location at 28.5 degrees. Monday May 15 saw a high of 26.5.
