Sunshine Coast RCMP is warning that counterfeit currency has been used on the Coast in recent weeks.
Counterfeit bills were discovered Gibsons, on July 28 and Aug. 1 at two separate retailers, an Aug. 2 press release states. The currency was counterfeit U.S. and Canadian hundred-dollar bills.
As a tip for spotting counterfeit currency, the release notes that Canadian bills today are made from polymer, have even edge cuts, holograms of a Prime Minister and Parliament, and the edges around the maple leaf are transparent.
The RCMP directs the public the Bank of Canada and US Currency Education Program for tips on parsing legal tender from counterfeit bills.
