Sunshine Coast RCMP report that a police officer shot a pitbull the morning of Feb. 12 while responding to a domestic disturbance call.
At about 6 a.m. Saturday morning, the RCMP received multiple calls about a "loud domestic disturbance" on Corlett Road in Gibsons, said an RCMP news release. "The female who called 911 had fled the residence stating a pitbull had attacked several adults inside, including herself. The caller stated her boyfriend had been bit and was bleeding from the head and ears."
The 911 operators could hear screaming from the house, were told there were children inside and were told that there were three people who'd need medical assistance, said the release.
When police arrived, they instructed the man inside to secure the dog before opening the door but the dog was not secured, said the release. "It charged aggressively toward a police officer who shot it twice to prevent any further attacks."
"The dog is being treated at a veterinary office where it is expected to recover," said the release.
One of the men who had reportedly been bit on the head has refused to meet with police and left before they arrived, said the release.
"Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266."
