Sunshine Coast RCMP took an individual into custody on Wednesday afternoon after reports of an individual brandishing a gun near the Madeira Park government wharf.
Police were called around 3 p.m. on June 14, and multiple officers were dispatched to a “high-risk report,” Const. Jihan McDougall told Coast Reporter. The attending officers set up containment — prohibiting public access to the area — and took the individual into custody without incident.
The situation is still under investigation by Sunshine Coast RCMP.
At the time of the report, the RCMP contacted the principal of the nearby Madeira Park Elementary school “regarding an unfolding incident in the area,” School District 46 communications officer Stephanie Murawsky told Coast Reporter. School was already dismissed for the day, and staff on site were told to remain inside the building. The incident was resolved approximately 30 minutes later.
