A "vehicle incident" on the Sunshine Coast-serving Queen of Surrey Monday morning, has caused ferry delays and cancellations on Route 3.

Queen of Coquitlam's 4:20 p.m. sailing departing Langdale, and 5:30 p.m. sailing departing Horseshoe Bay, have been cancelled because of an earlier "vehicle incident" on the Queen of Surrey (the route's other ship).

As of 3:15 p.m., the route was experiencing about a 60-minute delay, according to BC Ferries. The cancellations are "in order to mitigate terminal berth congestion and ease potential further delays," said a service notice.

What happened?

The Queen of Surrey was docked in Langdale for the 11 a.m. sailing when two vehicles collided as they were boarding the vessel, said BC Ferries spokesperson Ceilidh Marlow in an email. "The vehicles involved were directed into their lane from crew as normal, then collided a short time after as they drove further onto the vessel."

The two vehicles were removed by tow truck and BC Ambulance attended to affected passengers, added Marlow.

BC Emergency Health Services was notified of a motor vehicle incident at 11:04 a.m. on the vessel's car deck, said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites in an email. "Two ambulances with primary care paramedics attended the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to two patients who were transported to hospital in stable condition."

Said Marlow in her email, "Our crew worked quickly to ensure all necessary processes were followed for the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew."
