As of Friday, Aug. 20, South Pender Harbour will be on Stage 2 water restrictions until further notice.
Water use on the South Pender Harbour system exceeded the maximum amount allowed under the water licence for 15 days in July – almost half the month – and two days in June, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) general manager of infrastructure services, Remko Rosenboom, told the board at an Aug. 16 special meeting. The non-compliance will be reported to the province.
The water treatment plant has been able to meet demand, but it has been challenging to maintain sufficient flow for firefighting capabilities.
