Gibsons council adopted five bylaws as a block at its May 2 meeting, raising property tax and utility fees for 2023.
Property taxes were increased by 6.5 per cent over 2022 levels; 5 per cent for a reserve to be used for future policing costs and 1.5 per cent to support town capital construction projects. The 2023 town general taxation rate for residential properties is $1.333 per $1,000 of assessed value. For properties classed as "business and other", that rate is $3.9734.
Parcel taxes for water and sewer were each increased by 5 per cent over 2022 levels.
In addition, residential properties will see a $12 annual increase in their 2023 garbage and organics user fee, and fees for an additional container collection will go up by a $1.
