Crews are on the scene of a small wildfire that broke out in the afternoon of Aug. 30 between Port Mellon and Tetrahedron Provincial Park.
As of around 10 a.m. Aug. 31, the fire was reclassified as “being held." Coastal Fire Centre information technician Gordon Robinson told Coast Reporter this means that, with current resources and under forecasted conditions, the fire is not expected to grow. The fire is estimated to be about half a hectare in size and is burning in slash, Robinson said. The cause has not been determined yet.
The BC Wildfire map shows the approximate location as Rainy River.
BC Wildfire Service has nine personnel responding, after industry workers in the area initiated the response. Helicopters were used on Aug. 30.
The Aug. 30 wildfire is the sixth wildfire to spark in the lower Sunshine Coast since April.
