The shíshálh Nation byelection is coming up on Feb. 3.
The previous byelection was put on hold on Nov. 8, four days before the day of the election due to an administrative error and miscommunication related to the eligibility of byelection candidates, which was serious enough to question the fairness of the electoral process, and resulted in the election being cancelled.
With the election rescheduled, five candidates have put their names forward to become the next shíshálh Nation hihewus (councillor).
Coast Reporter reached out to the five candidates to learn more about their campaigns. The profiles for the candidates are as follows:
- Carol Louie
- Keith Julius
- Benedict Pierre IV
- Randy Joe
- Andrea Paul
Andrea Paul respectfully declined to answer the questionnaire.
Election day will be Feb. 3, and votes can be cast from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will take place in Elders’ Boardroom in the CMS building.
