Senior struck at downtown Sechelt crosswalk

An 82-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a white truck struck her at a marked crosswalk in downtown Sechelt. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating: RCMP.

The RCMP has issued a call for witnesses to an Aug. 11 incident of a white pickup truck striking a pedestrian at Sechelt's Cowrie and Trail Avenue intersection.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., an 82-year-old woman was in the marked crosswalk as the truck was turning from Trail onto Cowrie Street, according to a media release from the Sunshine Coast RCMP. That document detailed that the pedestrian was transported to Sechelt Hospital with serious injuries.

Media relations officer Cst. Karen Whitby stated in the release that the truck driver remained on scene and cooperated fully with the police investigation. It was noted that alcohol or drug impairment was not a factor in the incident.
