A family vacation — and more — is in store for Matthew Cookney's family, after the Sechelt man scored big with a winning lottery ticket.
On May 27, Cookney won Lotto Max's draw for a prize of $1 million. His ticket was purchased at Mason Place Market on Norwest Bay Road in West Sechelt.
“I didn’t believe it when I saw the number. I had to check it a few times. It’s a life-changing amount of money that can take the pressure off of the cost of living as a family,” Cookney said in a press release about his win.
“I’ve always dreamt of going on a family vacation if I won… it’s unbelievable,” he said, adding that he's excited to share the news with his parents. He'll also use the money to pay off his mortgage and invest.
The Cookney family are one of the prizewinners so far this year. The Lotto Max prize money claimed in 2022 is more than $52 million.
