The following are briefs from the March 16 District of Sechelt council meeting
Sechelt gave its okay to the development permit for Royal Canadian Legion Branch #140’s new location on Inlet Avenue at the council meeting of March 16. That permit needs a clearance letter from the province, related to potential site contamination as the location was used for automotive servicing in the past. Senior development planner Sven Koberwitz told council that the provincial approval is anticipated shortly.
The next step for the project is building permit finalization. The majority of the changes on the site will be at the rear of the building, where kitchen and washroom space as well as offices will be added. Koberwitz noted that the Inlet Avenue facade of the building will be improved with new siding and landscaping.
He stated that there has been a reduction in the parking requirements for the development. In addition to on street parking, there will be 12 vehicle spaces at the rear access via Periwinkle Lane, to accommodate the 65 food and beverage service seats inside.
Septage disposal fees go up
The cost of septic tank pump outs will be higher effective May 1, once council adopts a bylaw that received three readings at the meeting. Adoption is anticipated to be requested at the next council meeting on April 5. The cost will increase over current levels by just over six per cent, to 12 cents per litre. Director of finance David Douglas stated that septage hauling contractors would be advised in advance of any changes being implemented.
Film production backs away from Trail Bay pier
As Mayor Darnelda Siegers called the meeting to order, corporate officer JoAnne Frank asked that two items related to a proposed filming project at Trail Bay pier be removed from the agenda. Frank said that the production company had withdrawn its request, opting to use a different location for their film. She said that the bylaw amendment to set fees for private use of the pier and other District facilities for filming would come forward at a future date.
In a related item, Siegers reported that she had recently been interviewed for a television production related to tourism travel on the Sunshine Coast.
